Darjeeling

Darjeeling is a picturesque town in the Indian state of West Bengal, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas at an altitude of about 2,042 meters (6,700 feet). Known for its stunning views of the Kanchenjunga range, Darjeeling is often called the “Queen of the Hills” and is famous worldwide for its tea plantations, rich cultural heritage, colonial architecture, and scenic landscapes.

 

  • Darjeeling Tea:

    • Darjeeling is celebrated for its high-quality tea, often called the “Champagne of Teas.” The tea here has a unique flavor and aroma due to the region’s climate and altitude. Tea estates like Makaibari, Happy Valley, and Glenburn are popular, offering tours and tastings.

  • Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (Toy Train):

    • The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a narrow-gauge railway built between 1879 and 1881. The iconic “Toy Train” offers scenic rides through the hills, lush forests, and tea gardens, providing a memorable experience.
